Mayor Of Crossville

James Mayberry

Mayor

Dear Visitor,

Welcome to the City of Crossville!  We are located atop the beautiful Cumberland Plateau on Interstate 40, only a short drive to three metropolitan cities.  Our 2,000 foot elevation offers a mild, four season climate year round.  Our rural area offers an abundance of outdoor possibilities, with mountainous wildlife reserves, lakes, streams, and the Cumberland Mountain State Park.

We are known as the Golf Capital of Tennessee.  With nine pristine courses in our community, Crossville has become a golfers' paradise of national recognition; however, the opportunities and activities are endless.  Our Cumberland County Playhouse serves more than 165,000 visitors annually and the historic Palace Theatre on Main Street is always active.  We are also the location of the United States Chess Federation headquarters, a restored railroad Depot & Caboose Visitor's Center, and part of the World's Largest Yard Sale on Highway 127 North.

Our youth opportunities abound with nine elementary schools and two high schools and we join the State of Tennessee promoting two years free post-secondary education at our Tennessee College of Applied Technology,

Please take time to navigate our website to find out more about us. The calendar of events is a good start to see what events are upcoming that you might be interested in.  We have many civic groups that are in need of volunteers.  We can put you in touch with any that you are either interested in or would like to know more about.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at 931-484-5113.

"Crossville, Tennessee, it's just better here."

 2017 natl police week

National Peace Officers Memorial Day falls on Monday, May 15 in 2017. Because National Police Week takes place during the calendar week on which May 15 falls, t...his year's official NPW dates are Monday, May 15, 2017 through Sunday, May 21, 2017.

HISTORY
In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as Police Week. Currently, tens of thousands of law enforcement officers from around the world converge on Washington, DC to participate in a number of planned events which honor those that have paid the ultimate sacrifice.

The Memorial Service began in 1982 as a gathering in Senate Park of approximately 120 survivors and supporters of law enforcement. Decades later, the event, more commonly known as National Police Week, has grown to a series of events which attracts thousands of survivors and law enforcement officers to our Nation's Capital each year.

***NEW***    ELDER WATCH PROGRAM    ***NEW***

    Elder Watch Logo NEW 2

The City of Crossville Police Department is excited to announce the introduction of our first ever ELDER WATCH PROGRAM. The purpose of the program is for our office to have a personal contact with elderly citizens of the City of Crossville, to ensure their personal welfare. The Elder Watch Program is designed to enhance contact with homebound elderly persons and residents with special needs. We are often contacted by out-of-town family members who are concerned for the well-being of these persons, due to a lack of contact.

Through the Elder Watch Program, regular contact can be established with those who request to participate. This program will be operated by members of the Crossville Police Department and our VIP (Volunteers in Policing) program, who will establish contact with the homebound person, on a regular basis, to check on their well-being. If, through the course of his or her regular duties, an officer or volunteer encounters a resident who would benefit from the Elder Watch program, the officer would be encouraged to provide an Elder Watch Request Form to that resident.

Elder Watch Program Details

  • Upon regular intervals, a member of the Crossville Police Department will attempt to contact participants by home visits.
  • We will check on the welfare of the participants, their personal well-being and check their physical condition during extreme weather, heat / cool, etc.

The Crossville Police Department wants to stress the importance of increasing the awareness of this new Elder Watch program, in an effort to help insure the safety of our community’s must vulnerable residents.

Elder Watch Request Forms can be picked up at Police Headquarters during normal business hours. Residents or family members may also contact the VIP office at (931)484-7231, ext. 123, to request that an Elder Watch Request Form be mailed to their home, or to schedule one of our Volunteers come to their home and assist in filling out the request form.

 Police Memorial Ceremony

The City of Crossville Police Department Honor Guard, along with Cumberland County Sherrif's Department personnel, retired and former Law Enforcement officers and the thankful public turned out at the Court House lawn for a Police Memorial Ceremony. This time every year, we come together to remember those who have fallen in service to our community and while protecting our very way of life.

When asked why she attends these ceremonies, an on-looker replied; "We feel safer in our homes because we know there are men and women out there risking it all to ensure our safety, the safety of our children and our communities. Thank you for all that you do. All that you have done and will do. We love you dearly!"
